Some of you have very exotic names and I was wondering where they came from or why you chose that name and what is the meaning of the name .
e.g. My name "Dairymaid" is taken from my CH. bitch "Dairymaid aus dem Elbe-Urstromtal"
Some names I can imagine and some are very difficult just interested or nosey whatever you prefer. |
|
mine is because we all thought henry looked like a little panda bear (i just dropped the panda) not very exotic or mysterious! but there you go |
I first found the forum when our last sheepie was really poorly her name was Katy and my hubbys name is Brian. I joined the forum for him to come on so hence name KTB. He has never been on it, perhaps I should change my user name. |
Mine is a little complicated but here we go...
B-girl (or b-boy) stands for break-girl. The name was given to people who danced at Kool Herc's block parties back in the late 70's early 80's NY. Kool Herc used 2 record decks so that the break of the record could be extended, he was playing for the dancers. B-boys and b-girls would dance hard to the funk tunes, for example James Brown's music. On the break of the record one day someone went to the floor and kept dancing. That was the birth of breakdance.
Breakdancing or b-boying has come a long way since then and is now popular the world over. Here is an example of b-boying as it is today. There are also other elements to the culture such as popping and locking, which are often seen at b-boy events as the music is similar, funk tunes.
Greg and I run a weekly b-boy night with monthly breakdance competition, Greg DJ's and I host. After 4 years of dancing I became ill, so for the past 2 years I have been hosting the competitions instead.
Oh, and my dance name is Nemesis |
WOW.... I have nothing quite that interesting as your dancing info....
I married my sweetheart. He is a Soldier (he joined when he was 17).
his_army wife.... Just a proud wife of a very hardworking soldier. |
Violet is my username. When I adopted my OES, Violet, from a rescue, I kept the name she came with and decided that when I joined this Forum, it was to make life better for Violet, so I would use her name....hence Violet. |
When I first joined the forum it was to play a "joke" on Dawn (Got Sheep). I knew about it and knew she was active here, so I asked her to post information regarding the performance events at the '07 national for me.
At one point I was browsing through pictures and noticed she has posted a picture of Chewie in her pond - not the ideal state of being for a dog who is being shown. So I decided to catch her offguard and have Chewie's mom admonish him for his piggy behaviour and since Maddie's (mom's) nick-name is Mad Dog, that's what I picked as my member name. That and a picture of her and his sister, Sybil, for my avatar.
Of course, by the time I started posting as "myself" I wasn't going to change it. And, in any event, Mad sort of fits the entire insane household I l live in
I had a funny moment last weekend when I was at a show and met another forum member (Loried) for the first time and quite naturally introduced myself as: "Hi, I'm Mad Dog!" A non-forum member who was standing nearby and knows me by my real name sort of did a double-take I did follow up with my real name and I haven't reached a point (yet) where I feel a need to have it legally changed or anything like that
Kristine |
well i have no iagination - or maybe when you have a nae like kerry you get used to explaining it or whatever, so i am as i post
kristine's explanation seems a little reversed to me |
Interesting bgirl!
joahaeyo is korean (being that i am) for "I love you." the shortened/quick way to say it. joah really just means like/love |
Well Mine... Oldenglish! Says it all!!!! It for the love of the these beautiful dogs! |
got sheep - because I do!
It is also a feeble takeoff of the got milk commercials.
There is a dicussion about this from way back, let me see if I can dig it up......

When I joined I had but one Sheepie and I was his mom, hence TylersMom! Tyler is at the bridge now and we have three others (Kiera, Daisy and Taggart) that we share our life with, but I will stay with Tylers mom as he was the first in I hope is a very long line of sheepies to share my life, love and home! |
Sneakysheepie was a name of a Margaret Prince painting I loved. The painting was one of her origionals on canvas and was of a sheepie stealing a cookie off of a table - for some reason it really made my husband and I laugh. It is also one of the paintings I was outbid on on ebay. If anyone has the origional - I would love to talk!!!!! |
Mine is VERY boring.
I'm Vicki and my sheepie is George but I guess you all know that now |
Darth Snuggle....
I thought it was a fun combination. "Darth" is from Star Wars, of which I am a big fan. Every "Darth" has been a big bad guy. But i thought "Snuggle" was such a good sheepie trait, that I put the two together and it made me smile... sort of lame, I know. |
Sheepieshake..
..cuz I love the big fluffy tusches of my sheepies and I love when I come home and they just start shaking and wiggling...
Hmmmm...maybe I should have chose Sheepie WIGGLE!!!!! |
My nieces and nephews call me Aunt Buckie = abuckie.
They call me that because when my oldest nephew Damon was a kid, he always associted people with things they did or said. I used to sing a bedtime song called " Go to sleep my little Buckaroo" to him. By association, I became Aunt "Buckie". I don't think the kids even know my real name... All of my family calls me that now- and have for 19 years. Wish is was a bit cuter of a name.
One of his Grandma's is GMA "Hello - Hello" because she always yells that when she comes in the door. He turned 20 on Friday, and he still calls her that. |
Well... it's Bally's name but with stars! Just a touch of rocket science... |

What a great memory. I think that is a great story and name. Even grama's too.... Very special. |

I have an Aunt who's always been known as Aunty Fred.... I still don't know why, but it's gotten me into some very confusing conversations |
When my chow mix, Kayli, was a puppy one of the neighborhood girls said "hey lady, your dog is floofy". So she became FloofGirl, FloofDog, or just Floof.
So even though Bentley is floofy by definition, he's not the floofdog, but this will always be the House of Floof. |
yeah, mine isnt exactly exciting....Darcy is my name.....but im always hopeful that more people will name their children and dogs Darcy... |
You meant "Ron." Right? |

Ha! I've actually got a plaque on the back of the house that says "House of Floof established January 16, 2002"
My mother rolled her eyes when she saw it. She has no imagination, LOL. |
Mine in very boring. Before Tony and I were married, my name was
Deborah Cramer.
D'uh...boring. told you so! |
Mine is not very creative....Jackson is my oes and I thought Jack Attack sounded fun. Plus when I joined this site I was frequently attacked by her vicious puppy ways. |
Our first Old English, Lord Donneybrooke of Clyde, joined us more than 45 years ago. Shortly thereafter we found that, like potato chips, you can't just have one sheepie so Lady Guennivere of Bonnie entered our household (Yes, I know...Bonnie & Clyde).
Then two stray cats adopted us and a week later our neighbor moved leaving us two budgies.
Next, my brother wanted us to care for his two (very large) fish (In an aquarium although I wanted to take them out for walks on a leash).
One of my friends then made a sign and posted it on our front lawn for all to see. You guessed it..."The Simm 2 Zoo".
Personally, I would have preferred "The Simm Odd Ark" but I was outvoted by Jean.
Happy Holidays to all...and thank you for all the Christmas cards. I'm sure Jean would have loved them. |
Mine is pretty easy to deciper. Chsheepdogs = Champion Sheepdogs. Since I've lost track of how many I have helped Cathy finish, I figured the plural was my bet guess. Of course my goal is to have balanced dogs. Yes, balanced conformationally but really balanced means titles on both ends of their names! |
I loved the band 4 dog night but my grandmother on cold nights used to say it was a 3 dog night, 4 dog night , however many hounds it took in bed to get you warm when it was cold. Verry very cold nights it was a six dog night. I had 4 dogs so it was always a four dog night at my house, but now I have 5 |
4dognight wrote: I loved the band 4 dog night |
Aw, Cindy! The band is "Three Dog Night" (yeah, I'm old enough to remember)
How about changing your name to "All Dogs - All The Time" ???
oxoxox |

You guys are confusing me....how many dog nights are there??
Cindy you should have_____ Dog Night
(then you can change the number as you add more!)
Guess my name is pretty obvious and to add to that....
I loved every day I had being Donner's Mom! |
Oh Shoot It was 3 dog night (I knew that ) Just a senior typo. I think crazydoglady would be better. Never noticed the typo and I previewed it DUH |
afraid mine is boring...Shon my name. I got creative with Obe name. |
I joined right after I adopted Pepsi. I was very excited to be Pepsi's Mommy. He was my only Sheepdog at the time. Now we also have Rags.
Totally boring. |
Mine does not need an explanation, but just in case...
Dee, that's me-the human, and Abi, that's the furry one.
D and Abi |
Mine is boobaby as bear it is bear nickname alond with boo and hairy scary boo |
I always start a thread like this when I join forums, if there isn't already one. Glad I'm not the only one who wonders where people get their names!
Mine:
my name is Tristan. So...not isolde. I'm a big fan of the epic tale!
wanted to bump this for any newer members like me! |
Because thats just what I am, Ollie's mum - yep real thought went into that one
Have to say my favorite names on here are Boobaby and Labetussa |
herd in need of herding.
There are 4 people in our family 3 are ready for an OES and one is just about ready.
We don't have a dog YET but we will, until then we need herding.
I enjoyed this thread being bumped it was really interesting, thanks. |
I'm an English Major, if you couldn't tell. I have a bunch of critters, all with grammatical terms as names.
Amperand (&) my grey tailless kitty
Hyphen ( - ) my long haired white crazy cat
Ellipsis ( ...) my neurological deficit, dashing tuxedo cat
So naturally, we had to have another grammatical term. So Asterisk (*) fits the bill.
Captain Obvious Danger came from my boyfriend. He'd say these very obvious things and I'd say "thanks a lot, Captain Obvious".
The 'Danger' aspect came into play when he was at a bar with a friend and within three minutes said seperately "my middle name is captain obvious" then later he said "my middle name is danger". To which, his crafty friend said... "so... you're name is Captain Obvious Danger?"
Too awesome.
And thus is the story behind my user name * Capt. Obvious Danger.

Ya know, I could have sworn this topic was started WAY longer ago than November 2008 and I posted a response on that one, but I did an oes.org search and couldn't find it. Also tried to search on my own profile but with 5600+ posts, I gave up!! Can someone please tell me I'm not going crazy????
ANYway, my name is fairly simple too. Drezzie was the love of our lives from Dec 1995 until we lost her last May 2008. She was with us when I joined the forum, so I just listed myself as Drezzie's Mom. And as I said on my previous response (that I can't find! ), no matter how many other dogs come into my life, I will always be Drezzie's Mom.
Sammie is the newest love of our lives, and she's the sweetest girl ever - even has Drez beat on the sweetness meter. But so as now to confuse anyone, I'm staying as Drezzie's Mom. |
You're not going crazy! |

yep, i started the original one........ |
Oops I just realised we have changed our name.
Our dog's full name is "Macopa Hint Of Mischief"
(We keep telling him it's just a hint...)
We wanted to use this name because we can keep it no matter how many dogs we have. Our old name implied it was just me posting, but actually Greg posts with me a lot of the time, so now we have our new family name "Hint of Mischief" |
When I joined the forum my Sheepie Ellie just died and I very simple called myself "Ellie's mum".
Now since we got Charlie I often wonder if we should change the name to something different which would suit all of my Sheepies I had and still have!!??
.... but I wouldnt know how to change the username??? |
